cycle 2, week one

Hi alll

Please see the videos for the presentations this week. Don’t forget to watch all the videos, not just the ones you are presenting!

Also try to do your posts on the photos with captions. you can post these directly to the teen earth blog, not your personal blog sites. If you can’t remember the photos you chose, just pick any three.

Good luck.

Rmemeber to submit for review when you are done or publish yourself if you can. I will be posting the plant quiz later today. Good luck practice your storytelling skills with these photo captions. Your stories were so great!

A Survival Trip

Hannah Noah and I are in the car on the way to a survival trip. On the first day we decide to build a shelter first which is the smart thing to do because of the sacred order of survival. So we are building the shelter and we are bending over trees and tying things and getting logs and different types of dead plants.
When it is done we are hungry but we follow the sacred order of survival. Hannah and I make a bow drill fire. Next Noah Hannah and I go get food. We get cattails for the roots and we get a frog. We split the frog between the three of us so we dont get a lot of meat, but it’s still super good. David gives a little bit of food for dinner. The next day Hannah Noah and I and a few other people decide to go a day with only food we got from nature. For breakfast we have cattails and salmonberry. David brings bread so a lot of people cave but four of us don’t. The next thing we do is fishing. We go down to this log and end up getting one big fish and a few smaller fish and those taste awesome. But after that two more people drop out of the food from nature thing. We planned to do this thing where we all take shifts around the fire in pairs of two. We never end up doing it but that’s ok. Hannah and I are the first ones up in the morning. So we get out and go down to this tiny tiny fire. Hannah and I eat the last of the beef jerky, and everyone walks down to this lake. We make sandwiches and we have potato chips. My mom picks me up. She has DONUTS!!! and I am so happy.

15 Minute Fire

Me, Amber and Melana were the ones who where bowdriling.  It was the first time the bowdrill kit had been used so we had to start a new hole. We got it going within the first couple of tries. The only thing that we needed to do was make the hole for the spindle a bit bigger. We got smoke within the first 20 to 30 seconds and dark dust was coming out of the bowdrill hole.  But we still could not get a coal because we needed to carve the notch first, and then the spindle popped out. But we had to keep bowing for another minute or so before we could start carving the notch out.  But our knifes where too dull so we got some help with it.  Once the notch was all carved out and we made the hand hold more comfortable, we got the coal in a minute or two. But all the wood was not completely ready so we put the coal in the tinder bundle and kept it alive until the wood was ready. It was a big coal once we got it gong. Then we put it into the fire place and once we got some good size wood on it, it was a nice warm fire.
